The Board of the SNF Parkway Theatre — home to the Maryland Film Festival — is pleased to announce the appointment of a new executive leader and share the recent results of its refreshed strategic vision.

In Fall 2024, the Board of Directors convened a Search Committee to evaluate the organization’s leadership needs and launch a nationwide search for its next full-time Executive Director. The search drew widespread local and national interest, giving the committee a diverse slate of more than 100 candidates from over 15 states to consider, including many local and regional leaders. The Board has completed the national search and is delighted to announce Nancy Proctor as the SNF Parkway’s new executive leader.

Board Chairman Scot Spencer commented, “We are excited to have someone with Nancy’s record of success in revitalizing the Peale Museum, diverse background in the arts, and affinity for the great architectural institutions of Baltimore as the next executive director of the Maryland Film Festival and the SNF Parkway Theatre. She is the right person at the right time to accelerate our relaunch and new business plan, and with our great staff, continue to grow our community partnerships, and to make the Parkway a keystone in the Station North neighborhood.”

Proctor shared, “I am inspired by the opportunity to work with the SNF Parkway and Maryland Film Festival team on the relaunch of the landmark theater as a center of excellence and innovation in film and interactive media for our region.”

Board Vice Chair Camile Blake Fall reflected, “As the SNF Parkway continues its transformation into a hub of cultural invention for the Baltimore community, the board is thrilled to have Nancy at the helm, bringing to bear her creative vision, business acumen, and deep community roots.”

Proctor brings with her a passion for community collaborations, film, live arts, education, and immersive programming. She has a long history in Baltimore, serving as the founding Executive Director of the Peale from 2017 to 2025 and as the Deputy Director of Digital Experience and Communications at the Baltimore Museum of Art from 2014 to 2016. She led the renovation and revitalization of The Peale into a thriving community museum.

The first museum built in the Americas, the Peale Museum building has served many roles as the birthplace of BGE, Baltimore’s first City Hall, first public high school for people of color in the city, and municipal Museum. Shuttered in 1997 the Peale largely remained vacant until 2017. The Peale Board began raising funds for renovation in 2014 and brought on Proctor in 2017 to lead the transformation efforts.

While leading the Peale, Proctor founded and led The Lab @ The Peale, a dynamic hub for reimagining the museum experience. Rooted in inclusive storytelling and community engagement, The Lab champions new approaches to accessibility, sustainability, and digital innovation in cultural spaces. Operating online, in the historic Peale Museum, throughout Baltimore’s public spaces, and with partners around the world, The Lab brings together leading experts, creatives, and nonprofit collaborators to research, test, and develop forward-thinking solutions for the cultural sector. With a focus on technologies like augmented and virtual reality, immersive media, and interactive storytelling, The Lab explores new ways to connect audiences with history, art, and culture.

Nancy reflected on her upcoming transition, offering “My work as re-founding director of The Peale ignited a passion in me for transforming Baltimore’s historic buildings into vibrant platforms for the city’s contemporary communities. Together, the SNF Parkway and Maryland Film Festival can unite the powerful forces of art, technology, and history to create a unique launchpad for creators in all media across the city, state, and beyond.”

Proctor’s appointment comes following a period of strategic transformation for the SNF Parkway. Since 2024, the SNF Parkway Board of Directors and staff have partnered with the DeVos Institute of Arts and Nonprofit Management who have provided interim executive management and strategic planning support. Proctor will begin at the SNF Parkway on August 4, 2025. The DeVos Institute leadership will partner with the SNF Parkway Board of Directors, staff, and Proctor to assure a seamless transition to the new Executive leadership. The SNF Parkway will hold a series of meet and greets for the community in Fall 2025.
