I never would have noticed this, had BmoreArt’s Marketing Director Extrordinaire Lauren Van Slyke not pointed this out to me today, but it is true. BmoreArt published its 3,000th post today! Since publishing our very first post, a simple event listing for Denise Tassin’s Fairyland, an exhibit at Spare Room installation space on March 6, 2007, BmoreArt has continued to publish, on average, 375 posts a year. That’s about one post per day for the past eight years!
BmoreArt was started by Cara Ober with help from lots of friends and colleagues along the way – early on, Rob Sparrow Jones, Jarett Min Davis, Don Cook, Jack Livingston, and Al Zaruba. Since that time, the publication has expanded to include a wider net of contributing writers, editors, artists, photographers, helpers, staff, interns, and volunteers. As Baltimore and its art community evolves, so do we.
Thanks to support from the Robert W. Deutsch Foundation, BmoreArt has been able to step up our efforts, and this has been essential in creating the quality arts criticism and unique coverage that you can’t find anywhere else in Baltimore. We can also thank numerous advertisers and sponsors, including The BMA, Walters Art Museum, MICA, Jerry’s Artorama, Area 405, the ACC Craft Show, East City Art, and many more. BmoreArt also thanks Johns Hopkins University for awarding us an Andrew Mellon Arts Innovation Grant to work with JHU students, to mentor the next generation of arts writers. Without writers, most of the amazing artwork, exhibits, and experiences that make Baltimore a culturally rich and unique place to live and play would be forgotten.
Although, as Editor, I am the person most often making the doughnuts here, BmoreArt is a collective effort that could never succeed without the help of our team and our readers. The only reason we cover the arts in Baltimore is because we love what we do. Even though 3,000 posts makes us more mature than some other publications, we show no sign of slowing down!
