Painted Woods: A Solo Exhibition by Ryan Syrell
July 13th – 28th

Current Space

Front Gallery (Project Room)

Painted Woods is part of Ryan Syrell’s ongoing series of investigations into the working habits, materials, philosophy and content of the American landscape painter Neil Welliver (1929-2005). Throughout the various works comprising Painted Woods, Syrell explores Welliver’s processes and ideologies of painting, abstracting them and placing them in modified contexts, resulting in alternative translations of the artist’s pictorial logic.

*WST, SSY: Every week Bmoreart’s contributors travel around town to view the art showing in and around Baltimore City. ‘We Saw This, So Should You’ is a series where we post photos from the best of these exhibitions. Obviously, photos are inadequate in capturing the inherent qualities of these works. Art is always best viewed in person, so we recommend that you do so, whenever possible.
