Tents are omnipresent in the cultural zeitgeist, from the tent cities that are created from necessity after natural disasters, to the Occupy Movement, to campgrounds, circuses and even the tents that comprise arts festivals such as Artscape.
The artists in At-TENT-ion were encouraged to think about the tent as a metaphor. The tent is a “blank slate” that was used as a starting point for their sculptures. Each artist started with the same exact two-person tent, but by painting, adding on, building around and transforming the tent, they became individualized and unique objects. Some tents invite the viewer to peer inside “secret worlds” or make statements about culture, while others surprise with whimsy or humor. Come visit all 20 of the tents during the festival weekend.
