Area 405 is pleased to announce a two person show: Conventions, an exhibition of drawings, paintings, sculpture and installation by roycrosse and Ruth Pettus.
roycrosse was born in Trinidad and has since lived and worked in Canada and throughout the United States. He moved to Baltimore in 2002 and along with continuing to make and show his own work nationwide, he runs Westnorth Studios in the Station North Arts and Entertainment District. roycrosse has been featured recently in Sculpture Magazine and dozens of solo exhibitions, collections, and commissions. For Conventions, roycrosse’s body of work, titled War and Peace, is a series of several installations reflecting upon the contemporary political climate and foreign policy.
Ruth Pettus was born in New Zealand. She spent her childhood in London and Australia then moved to the U.S. settling in Baltimore. Ruth’s ominous large scale paintings feature shadowy figures on deserted landscapes. For the last 12 years, Ruth has also been working with cast off shoes, growing a collection of unique storytelling pieces that create bigger installations. Ruth’s paintings and shoes have been exhibited internationally.

Since 2003, Area 405 has hosted a range of events from visual arts exhibitions and dance performances to video screenings, theatre and experimental music performances. Area 405 also serves its community by hosting benefits and meeting space for non profits, schools and neighborhood groups. Area 405 offers one of the region’s largest exhibition spaces. At nearly 7,000 square feet, this former industrial site is an ideal context in which to present large-scale exhibitions. It is housed in a 160 year old 66,000 square foot artist owned building where over 30 artists create. Area 405 is solely run by volunteers.
