The University of Maryland Department of Art Visiting Artist Lecture Series Presents Karen Yasinsky

Karen Yasinsky works primarily with animation and drawing. Her video installations and drawings have been shown in many venues internationally including Mori Art Museum, Tokyo; P.S. 1 Contemporary Art, NY; UCLA Hammer Museum, LA; Kunst Werke, Berlin; the Sculpture Center, NY and at the Wexner Center in Columbus Ohio. Her animations have been screened worldwide at various venues and film festivals including the MoMA, NYC, International Film Festival Rotterdam and the New York Underground Film Festival. Her work can be found in several books including No. 1: First works by 363 Artists, Armpit of the Mole and >>fast forward: Media Art Sammlung Goetz. She is the recipient of a 2002 Guggenheim Foundation grant and teaches at Johns Hopkins University in Film/Media Studies. She works with Mireille Mosler, Ltd., NY and Tanja Pol Galerie, Munich. She is also a founding board member of the Gunk Foundation, a private foundation for public art.
Karen Yasinsky’s solo exhibition ‘I Choose Darkness’ opens March 3rd at Mireille Mosler, Ltd (New York) and runs until April 11th 2009
The Art Sociology building is inside the beltway, 9 miles from downtown Washington and 32 miles from downtown Baltimore. It is located next to lot 1 on the western end of the university of Maryland, College Park, near the intersection of Route 193 (University Boulevard) and Adelphi Road.
