Jackie Milad! SCHOOL! The LOF/T! Monday, March 30th, 7pm. Free and tea.
SCHOOL is regular show-and-tell series that features one artist or collaborative group talking about or demonstrating their work in front of live human beings. Artists will be encouraged to prepare lectures about a topic, presentations about their work (specific projects or general retrospectives), or even a performance of a work in progress. Then we all talk.
As simple as it sounds, these forums geared towards in-depth discourse seem hard to find outside of our academic institutions.
Our upcoming session features local maker of drawings Jackie Milad. Jackie is an artist who works with drawing, performance art and installation, and often creates projects that brings these disciplines together. Her works attempt to expose our awkward human moments, such as communication breakdown or physical contact between strangers.
This session of SCHOOL will be moderated by Ric Royer. The event is free, so spend your money on Jackies artworks which will be available at the event.

Our first session featured local author Michael Kimball, who brought us all the way back to his first book from 1976 (a coloring book). The audience started out a bit reserved, and that will be reflected in their grade, but the night was a lot of fun and the cupcakes were delicious.
This series is part of a larger local movement among artists in Baltimore (mostly teachers like myself) who have decided to tackle what we feel is a lack of outlets for serious conversation within the Baltimore arts communities (especially in the more non-academic experimental practices).
