Dutch artist Suzanne Van Rest wraps up her residency with a characteristically provocative installation. At first glance, it appears a birthday party is ready to start, until you notice the balloons are plastic bags, and the table is oddly shaped and covered with grass and small flags. An accompanying photograph documents the scene with subtle differences. Van Rest gently frustrates our expectations of what we see to provoke us into considering our moment-by-moment reality more deeply.
