Please join us Saturday, MARCH 30th, 2013 from 7-10pm for the opening reception of AREA 405’s 2nd annual regional juried exhibition, On Loan: FORMALITY
This exhibition features artists from a 150 mile radius of Baltimore. We received applications from a dozen different regional schools, and Ms. Ober selected over 50 works of art from the following Colleges and Universities to be included.

Cara Ober is an artist, professor, curator and writer based in Baltimore. She is the founder of Bmoreart.com and writes reviews for many publications including ARTnews and The Baltimore Sun. She also served as the Urbanite Magazine’s Online Arts and Culture Editor. Ober has curated numerous exhibitions throughout the region and has been a guest lecturer for the Hirschhorn Museum, The Baltimore Museum of Art, the College Art Association and many others.
Juror Cara Ober States:
“Looking back on my selection of works submitted for Area 405’s On Loan exhibition, the one principle that unites all my selections is a Formalistic approach to art making. On the whole, I chose the works that appealed to me on an intuitive level, but when viewing them as a group, they all shared very particular visual systems and aesthetic-based outcomes. Rather than a conceptual focus, the works in this exhibit emphasize color, texture, contrast, pattern, layering, and unique approaches to media. Rather than sending an intellectual message, the artists I selected experiment with visual and formal relationships. On the whole they are down to earth, experiential, satisfyingly physical, and nonverbal.”
