The Maryland Federation of Art (MFA) presents its 2nd Annual Found Objects exhibition Eye of the Beholder: The Fine Art of the Found Object. The exhibition showcases two and three dimensional works of fine art that have incorporated at least one or more found objects into their presentation. One hundred ninety-nine artists representing twenty-nine states, including D.C. and Canada, entered three hundred forty-three pieces to be considered by the Juror. Eighty-three artworks by fifty-eight artists were accepted. From colored machetes to reused cinese takeout containers, the artists in the exhibition have drawn inspiration from the oddest objects and have incorporated them into their artwork in the most inventive ways. The selected works will be on exhibit in the MFA’s Circle Gallery from October 30 to November 26, 2011.
Janet Maher, Associate Professor of Art at Loyola University Maryland, juried the exhibition. She has been a working artist for thirty-five years. She says, “It was a true pleasure to jury Eye of the Beholder, and I am grateful for the opportunity to have done so,” she goes on, “I feel that the inventive range, combination and transformation of materials are particularly sophisticated in this show … I am already a new fan of many of these artists, and I look forward to meeting them and seeing their work in person!”
