Staging Over Manipulation at Guest Spot March 3

According to Tom Chalkley, “For the past three years, my old friend Craig Hankin and I have been working on a graphic memoir — read: a big, fat, grown-up comic book — about our days playing in rock & roll bands together. The project has grown into something of a coming-of-age novel, except it’s (mostly) true. When finished, “If I’d Known Back Then,” (working title) will run at least 200 pages and include a CD/mp3s of songs mentioned in the book. This is a big project and we’re only about a third of the way done. So we’ve launched a Kickstarter project to help raise funds so we can complete this generational epic.”

If you’re unfamiliar with Kickstarter, it’s an ingenious way to “crowd source” financial support for creative projects of all kinds. Here’s how it works: Each project has a funding goal — ours is $9,000 — and a limited amount of time in which to raise those funds. (We’ve got until March 20 to reach our goal.) In exchange for your pledge, we offer rewards/goodies to be delivered to you once our goal is met. Your pledge will not be collected unless our project is fully funded. Best of all, for us, is that we get to keep any funds pledged over & above our stated goal and plow them into our work on the book — so even if it looks like we’re getting close to our goal, we can use your support!

About the Artists:  Craig Hankin is a painter, writer and rhythm guitarist. He teaches drawing and painting at Johns Hopkins University. Tom Chalkley is a Baltimore cartoonist, singer-songwriter and blues harpist. They’ve been collaborating on comics and music since 1977.
