Despite the fact that this image is kind of weird and dismal, everyone needs to haul ass over to MICA this week for affordable, amazing holiday gifts. Every year, the MICA Art Market features hand-made works and wares by the school’s current students, faculty, alumni, and staff. While the ‘serious’ art collectors tan in Miami, the rest of us can purchase artwork we love at prices we can afford. I personally guarantee there are always serious finds to be found and serious deals to be made.
The Art Market takes place December 5-8 from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. in Brown Center’s Leidy Atrium (First Floor), Falvey Hall lobby (Lower Level) and Rosenberg Gallery (Second Floor), 1301 W Mount Royal Ave.
On sale: illustrations, paintings, prints, posters, sculptures, mosaics, stationery, T-shirts, ceramics, jewelry, textiles, book arts, toys, wrapping paper and “so much more.” This year’s event includes 275 MICA students, faculty, alumni and staff.
According to MICA, “The MICA Art Market, sponsored by the MICA Alumni Association, The Master in Professional Studies in the Business of Art and Design, and WYPR is an opportunity for holiday shoppers and collectors to find new works by emerging artists as well as collectibles from leading artists in their respective fields. Visitors will have the opportunity to talk one-on-one with the artists about their work while enjoying the market’s lively atmosphere and supporting the local economy.” I will second that.
