Maryland Federation of Art Organizes Exhibit of Extra-Large and Extra-Small Works at University of Maryland, College Park
Maryland Federation of Art presents XL-XS, an exhibition featuring 116 artworks from across the country. The juror, Barry Nemett, chair of the painting department at Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA), selected the exhibition from nearly 500 entries submitted throughout the United States and Canada.
The show’s organizers determined that large works could not measure less than four feet nor be greater than eight feet in any direction; for the small works, neither the height nor width could exceed twelve inches including the frame. As the title suggests, the exhibit celebrates a visual exchange between extremes.
Regarding the lack of any medium-scaled work in the exhibit, Nemett writes, “Average’ is left out because, by definition, there’s nothing extreme about it. There’s no extra medium.”
Meet the artists at the opening reception on Friday, June 29, from 6 to 8 pm. Cash awards totaling $1,000 will be presented at 7:00pm
