Jack Wilgus: A Retrospective at MICA opens October 15

McDaniel College Department of Art and Art History presents an exhibit, stage: New Work by Rick Delaney, Sept. 22-Oct. 16, in the Esther Prangley Rice Galley in Peterson Hall. An opening reception will be held 7-9 p.m. Sept. 22. The artist’s mixed-media art installation draws from computer-based technology.

Rick Delaney, a practicing visual artist for the past 20 years, will treat visitors to a mixed-media art installation. Delaney infuses computer-based technology into his work, which he views as an extension of the need to understand and express his relationships with people and his environment. For his work, he draws from verbal communications, dreams, texts, sonic art, body movement and material.

“We are bombarded with sound and images that touch in our daily lives,” Delaney says. “I replicate that in my work. My main interest is transcending the mundane by examining the power of something considered banal and transforming its properties to a more dramatic structure.”

Delaney earned a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from Florida State University in Tallahassee and master’s degree in Fine Arts from the University of Texas in Austin, specializing in printmaking.

A Baltimore resident, Delaney teaches traditional and computer animation, digital imaging, video and web design at several universities, including Goucher College and the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.

For more information about the artist, visit rickdelaney.com. The exhibit is free and open to the public. For information and gallery hours, call 410-857-2595.
