BmoreArt’s Picks: July 30 – August 5

Baltimore’s favorite water ballet and synchronized swimming is back!

This year, Fluid Movement riffs on the Olympics with 2024 Splash Games: A Water Ballet of Imaginary Sports. The show promises, “The ecstasy of triumph, the anguish of losing! Unlike its bigger sister, the Olympics, Baltimore’s very own Splash Games covers a more esoteric assemblage of made-up sports where not only is skill, athleticism, and competition very important, but also glitter, puns, silliness, and love. Here the choreography, makeup, and costuming are as much a part of the sport as the game itself.”

The show kicked off this past weekend (July 27th and July 28th) at Riverside Park Pool. But you can still catch it at the Clifton Park Pool: August 3rd, 5 PM and 7 PM and August 4th, 5 PM and 7 PM.

In addition to Baltimore’s “best of the best” synchronized swimmers, Splash Games will feature a quirky array of made-up sports from rodeo jousting to competitive sleeping. According to Fluid Movement’s Joe Meduza, “Not since the ancient Minoans jumped over bulls or the ancient Greeks and Romans celebrated their athletic festivals has the excitement been so palpable or splashable!”

Here’s a glimpse in photos of the July 28th show, brought to you by BmoreArt photographer, E. Brady Robinson.
