Baltimore News: Walters Art Museum Union, Mount R [...]

“Infinite Journeys are about right now.” This sense of hopeful possibility permeated the Baltimore School for the Art’s gorgeous Schaefer Ballroom in dance, voice, and musical performance while formally dressed guests were enthralled by the performances of BSA students at their annual gala. If you have never attended the BSA’s signature event, Expressions, you are missing out on one of Baltimore’s cultural gems. Each year, it centers award-winning students, alumni, and faculty, not only showcasing the vast and diverse talent at the BSA but creating an opportunity to appreciate the collective success of this unique and high achieving public high school for the arts.

According to the BSA, this year they are celebrating “the art, the artist, the art of being, the art of becoming… Infinite Journeys is a celebration of connections, the loves we love, the lives we lead, our culture, our heritage, carried forth into the unknown,” reads a release. “Infinite Journeys is about action, formation and transformation.”

While the description might seem hyperbolic, the talent on display by current BSA students exceeds expectations. After the Thursday March 2 performance, guests were invited to mingle, enjoy cocktails and beautifully arranged food, and interact with students in small groups throughout the school. On Saturday, March 4 there was a repeat performance, followed by a cocktail party and “signature art experiences.” And then, for those who want to experience the performances without the hooplah or include families of all ages, they offer a Sunday matinee one-hour show.

If you were not able to attend this year, you an enjoy Jill Fannon’s photos of this legendary annual event and consider giving, to support this Baltimore cultural gem here.
