VCU’s nationally ranked Department of Photography & Film welcomes applications to our 2016 Summer Studio Program.
Summer Studio is a supportive, rigorous artistic residency that combines theory, practice and professional development over four weeks in the heart of campus and downtown Richmond, VA, from May 16-June 12, 2016. Taking advantage of our extensive facilities at VCUarts, Summer Studio provides concentrated studio time and ample workspace, artist lectures, engagement with critics and curators, and generous critiques with VCUarts faculty and guest artists.
This intensive, hands-on experience is ideal for artists developing a portfolio for graduate school, as well as anyone interested in studio arts immersion in a stimulating and affirmative environment. Each student is provided studio space, use of state-of-the-art audio, lighting, and camera technologies, and 24/7 access to digital/analog production studios and editing labs.
Core 2016 teaching faculty are photographer and maker of beautiful artist books, Justin James Reed, award-winning photographer Paul Thulin, and documentary and experimental filmmaker Sasha Waters Freyer, winner of the prestigious 2016 Helen Hill Award in Film.
