The School 33 Art Center Studio Artist Biennial is an exhibition featuring the work of the current artists-in-residence at School 33 Art Center. The showcase features artists Atsuko Chirikjian, Michelle Dickson, Chip Irvine, Tiffany Jones, Jonathan Latiano, Dan Perkins, Olivia Robinson, Ruri Yi, and Elana Webb and is curated by Sarah Doherty.
The exhibition is on display in the Main Gallery from Friday, June 12 through Saturday, August 22, 2015.
School 33 Art Center is managed by the Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts and is located at 1427 Light Street. Gallery hours are Wednesday through Saturday from 11am to 4pm. The Artscape Gallery Network connects 21 Baltimore galleries to a wider audience and highlights 2015 Janet & Walter Sondheim Artscape Prize applicants, along with artists working throughout the region.
Since 1979, the Studio Artist program has provided studio space at affordable rates to more than 130 professional artists.
In 2008, School 33 Art Center established the Studio Mentor Program which facilitates studio critiques and professional development for resident artists. Twice a year prominent practicing artists and arts professionals from the mid-Atlantic region are invited to conduct one-on-one studio visits and provide support and constructive feedback to help the resident artists fulfill their creative goals. Every two years, a mentor is chosen to serve as curator for the School 33 Art Center Studio Artist Biennial, and 2015 Biennial curator Sarah Doherty is the current studio mentor. Doherty is an award-winning professor of sculptural media at the Maryland Institute College of Art and an accomplished professional artist and curator in Baltimore.
School 33 Art Center is dedicated to providing opportunities for visual and performing artists through solo and group exhibitions, art classes, hands-on workshops, a Studio Artist Program and special events. A program of the Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts, School 33 Art Center is supported in part by the Maryland State Arts Council and through private contributions. School 33 Art Center is the proud recipient of a grant from the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation, which supports fearless and innovative collaborations in the spirit of Robert Rauschenberg.
