We Heart Baltimore at Metro Gallery

School 33 Art Center will host a panel discussion featuring the artists and curator of “Move, Maneuver. Track and Traipse” on the final day of this exhibition, Saturday, May 30, 2015 at 2pm in the Main Gallery.

Artists Stephanie Imbeau, Hiroshi Jacobs, Alessandra Torres and curator Karyn Miller will speak as a panel about the exhibition and address their individual creative practices. Visitors have the opportunity to learn more about the artists and the show’s curator through a conversational format.

School 33 Art Center is a facility managed by the Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts and is located at 1427 Light Street. Gallery hours are Wednesday through Saturday from 11am to 4pm.

In an increasingly mediated and virtual society, “Move, Maneuver. Track and Traipse” considers our bodies, the physical spaces we inhabit, and the way we move, maneuver, track and traipse through those spaces. The group exhibition includes work from four artists: Sonja Hinrichsen, Stephanie Imbeau, Hiroshi Jacobs and Alessandra Torres and is curated by Karyn Miller. Hinrichsen photographs the elaborate, fleeting patterns drawn by the footsteps of dozens of volunteers trudging through snowy landscapes. Imbeau collects lost and discarded umbrellas, then creating playful sculptural compositions around which people can duck and wind. Drawing upon his training as an architect, Jacobs designs installations which tap into viewers’ spatial memory. Participants consider their bodies, gestures, and memories as they enter Torres’ sculptural dance machine, moving within it to draw a specific, choreographed movement.
